ZUP’s Fishing Resort

Our location proves to be our
greatest asset. Our main base is located on a pine studded island in Lac La
Croix in the Province of Ontario. Lac La Croix is a border lake surrounded by
Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) to the South, and to the North
lies the pristine beauty of Ontario’s Quetico Park. Both are protected canoe
parks with only the graceful 35 mile curve of Lac La Croix to separate them.
With no public road access, La Croix easily boasts some of the finest fishing in
the world. Our waters are home to an abundant number of small-mouth and
largemouth bass, northern pike, walleye pike, lake trout, crappie, sturgeon,
brook trout and white fish.

The Zup’s. Our
hosts, Mark and Kathy Zup are no strangers to the Northland. Both are Ely,
MN natives with over 35 years experience between them. Mark grew up at the
Resort and followed in his father’s footsteps by beginning his Canoe
Outfitting Business at age 16. Their family is rounded out by daughters,
Raychal and Jennifer. The island is also home to two black labs,
"King" and "Fischer". A "quality vacation" is
their guarantee to guests and includes one-on-one attention to all who enter
their door. |
 |
Plans. The
American Plan includes boat, motor, gas, meals and cottage. Housekeeping
packages are offered after July 1st and can be as simple as cottage rentals
or may include boat, motor and gas. The spring & fall bear hunt are much
like the American Plan Package, with the extra bonus of superb fishing once
you’ve bagged your bear. Added to this can be duck and grouse hunting in
the fall. What more could a sportsman ask for? The private pine island
package is a camp site which you pick within a five mile radius of the
resort and Zup’s will set you up with all the comforts of home. This
package includes meals, all preset camping equipment, a canoe or boat and
your own private sunset. Perfect for the first time campers of the souls who
want the privacy and serenity of their own Canadian Island. |

Strategically
Located. Strategically
located on the Canadian side of Lac La Croix, Zup’s is just a stone’s
throw from the U.S. border...in the heart of "God’s Country".
Zup’s is accessible by boat from Crane Lake, MN entering Ontario through a
water customs station located on Sandpoint Lake. No more waiting in the long
summer lines at the border in International Falls for a Canadian fishing
trip. Spend hours of driving time fishing instead. Crane lake is located off
of Highway 53 N, 28 miles from Orr, MN via Highway 23. After a short towboat
ride and checking through customs, you arrive at the Dawson Portage. The
portage entails a four mile bus ride across the Canadian wilderness. On the
Lac La Croix side of Dawson, tow boats take you the short distance to
the Lodge. You can be at Zup’s 1½ hours after leaving Crane Lake. Direct
seaplane flights are available from Crane Lake, Ely and International Falls,
MN. |

Accommodations. Imagine
this beautiful rustic lodge located just feet from the water’s edge. The
spacious lodge holds a dining room, lounge, office, small trading post
complete with tackle. Comfortable rocking chairs by the beautiful stone
fireplace invite you to an evening of fishing tales or roasting marshmallows
for s’mores! |
 |
Main Camp. The
lodge is surrounded by 8 cottages, the smallest for two people, the largest
housing 16. Cottages are fully modern with electric heat, carpet, tub
showers, coffee machines and microwaves, refrigerators, stoves and maid
service. Also found at the Main Camp: gas, bait, fish cleaning and freezing,
cellular phone booth and sauna. The Cabin Camp located 1½ miles from
the main base, it has five cottages accommodating four to ten people, a
perfect place for solitude and serenity. They all have screened porches,
stoves, refrigerators and indoor bathrooms. A short boat ride to the main
lodge dining room and a hot meal awaits you. Both locations offer 24 hour
electricity. |
 |
Boats & Motors.
Zup’s
offers new 16' Lunds with floors and swivel seats which are a fisherman’s
dream. All are equipped with 20 or 25 hp Yamaha outboards and electric
trolling motors with unlimited battery supply. |

Meals. Many
have claimed to come for the fishing, but have returned year after year for
the meals! Home cooked is the best way to describe them. Home made bread and
rolls baked daily in the kitchen along with soup from scratch, salad,
entree, dessert and home baked monster cookies and beverage, leaving the
heartiest of appetites holding their bellies! Breakfast is served between
6-8 am, lunch at 12 noon in the dining room, picnic lunch or shore lunch can
be packed for the "all day fisherman" and dinner is between 6-8
pm. |
