Killarney Mountain Lodge & Mahzenazing River Lodge

The journey to the deep backwoods of northern Canada, the site of the Mahzenazing River Camp, takes approximately 2 days. On the first day, members rendezvous in Toronto, fly to Sudbury and travel by whatever means available from there to the Killarney Mountain Lodge, the final destination that day.

Note: Baggage Allowance is two pieces of regulation baggage per person between the mainland and the islands as well as during neighbor island travel (flask & beer excluded, as these items are needed for medicinal purposes). The Society will not be held responsible for loss or damage to baggage. Golf bags are not considered regular luggage and may be charged for by the airlines or transportation companies after arrival.

On the second day, the party is always met at the lodging by the Killarney Limousine Service and is chauffeured to the Chickanishing River, formally the Collins Inlet, to meet a luxury cruise liner, which offers attractive in-door comforts including a lounge and salon as well as open air seating areas. The ship travels several miles up river to the secluded and World renowned Mahzenazing River Lodge. The cruise offers spectacular scenery you can't see any other way.

The Mahzenazing River Lodge is accessible only by air or water and is located along a government preserve area of the Georgian Bay's North shore, 18 miles east of Killarney, Ontario, on the historic canoe route to the west of the French Voyagers. The landscape remains rugged and unchanged from the ice-age which once covered all of Canada. The isolated river lodge was once the site of a thriving lumber town - founded in 1869 - with its own post office, store and blacksmith shop. In the late 1800's a fire destroyed much of the town. Today, structures, pilings and moorings may still be found all over the island. The lodge also features a private lagoon filled with glittering fish as well as cuddly and aromatic black bear.

The Royal Hotel (Main House) captures the warmth of bygone elegance. Descending gracefully down the main path of the courtyard the hotel commands a spectacular view of the Cloche Mountains teeming from the Provincial Reserve and the Collins Inlet Channel, long acclaimed as one of the most beautiful sights in the world. Accommodations run from studio apartments to spacious two- or three- bedroom Villas that can be home-base for an unforgettable vacation. Day time cruises will include renowned meals, prepared by Chef William and his staff. Often the pristine "bass boat" style fishing boats were used as a base for exploring the interesting neighboring bays - Derek's Delight, The Ledge, Brad's Bay, Wilson's Bay, Long Shore, Sugar John Bay, Toad Island, etc. Tour the backwoods through the upper bay area, the waterfalls and game reserve complete with Elk, Fox, Mink and the great Black Bear Feasting Grounds (Dump). Enjoy wilderness at your fingertips, as the tours were conducted solely on three wheeled buggies or on foot. Enjoy a variety of exotic after dinner drinks accompanied by narrative renditions by some of the worlds greatest story tellers. Each night is highlighted by chirps and creeks of nocturnal creatures.
